An email address consists of two main parts, separated by the ‘@’ symbol:
- Username (Local Part): The username, or local part, comes before the ‘@’ symbol and is unique to the individual user within a specific domain. It is typically a combination of letters, numbers, and sometimes symbols, and is chosen by the user when creating an email account.
- Domain Name (Domain Part): The domain name follows the ‘@’ symbol and indicates the email provider or the organization hosting the email service. It is usually made up of a combination of letters and may include a top-level domain (TLD) such as “.com,” “.org,” or “.net.”
For example, in the email address “[email protected],” “john.doe” is the username, and “example.com” is the domain name.
